The old lime trees that you now see on Church Green were planted in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. The bus shelter was built by voluntary labour in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Elizabeth 11. Many of the houses opposite Church Green started life as shops including a saddle maker, rope works, iron foundry and later a bakery, a drapers and grocers. If you look carefully at the outside of these buildings you can see the traces of shop fronts.
